Job Description

Te Mahi / The role

Tōtara Hospice is seeking a dynamic Clinical Nurse Educator to lead and inspire our nursing team. Reporting to the Director of Nursing, you will collaborate with clinical teams to identify and address education needs, ensuring our nurses deliver exceptional, evidence-based care. This pivotal role supports professional development, enhances clinical competencies, and aligns with Tōtara Hospice’s strategic goals.

Some of your responsibilities are to:

  • Design, implement, and evaluate training programs to enhance nursing skills;
  • Facilitate mandatory and advanced clinical updates, including syringe driver management and intravenous therapy;
  • Support individual learning needs and competency assessments;
  • Collaborate on inter-professional workshops and skills updates;
  • Assess Professional Development and Recognition Programme (PDRP) portfolios.

This is a permanent part-time position of 24 hours per week. If you're interested in a full-time role, you may have the opportunity to take on additional RN shifts to reach a total of 40 hours per week.

We are seeking someone who sees beyond the horizons—someone who can anticipate future needs, embrace challenges, and think innovatively to enhance educational initiatives. Creativity is key in this role, as you will be designing and implementing dynamic learning experiences that resonate with our diverse team. Most importantly, you have a genuine passion for education and take pride in mentoring and developing others to achieve their fullest potential.

Our ideal candidate must have:

  • A current APC and a full clean drivers licence
  • Advanced clinical skills and experience in palliative care
  • Expertise in coaching, mentoring and adult education
  • An ability to work in positions of responsibility, demonstrating sound organisational, decision making and project management skills.
  • A collaborative working style, enabling the development of strong and effective relationships with peers and colleagues.
  • Strong communication, leadership and organisational skills
  • An open and enquiring mind, with sound knowledge of the Treaty of Waitangi, Tikanga Best Practice and demonstrated sensitivity and respect for diversity.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and IT competencies
  • Ideally, the candidate will hold a postgraduate qualification in Education or Palliative Care, or be actively working towards achieving one.

If the above sounds like you, then don’t miss this opportunity. Imagine having access to these benefits:

  • Arriving to work and there is always a car park space available, and it’s FREE
  • Your orientation has been uniquely customised to your requirements and you have been supported through your orientation period.
  • Your wellbeing is at the forefront of TH’s concerns. You are provided with a monthly professional supervision session every month – confidential and at no cost to you
  • Access to a 100% unique-to-TH employee insurance programme (we are the first hospice in NZ to introduce this amazing enhancement for our staff!)
  • Last but not the least, you have access to our on-site Aroha Eatery (with coffee discounts) and shop at our 2nd Edition to make work life brighter.
