Job Description

Te mahi | The Role

As Tōtara Hospice ’s sole Pharmacist, you will play an important role within our multi-disciplinary team where you will be responsible for the appropriate, safe, and timely provision of medications and assessment of medication plans, along with:

  • Lead and co-ordinate specialist palliative care pharmacy practice within Tōtara Hospice’s region
  • Manage and improve the medication-use process in patient care settings
  • Demonstrate excellence in the provision of medication counselling to patients, caregivers, and whānau
  • Promote the quality use of medicines and understand the importance of ensuring economic and efficient supply
  • Take part in medicine audits and keep up to date with emerging trends and research
  • Provide pharmacological advice to our Allied Health, In-Patient, and Community teams as well as to patients, their whānau and their GPs

Ideally, we are looking for someone who is a team player with excellent communication skills, with the expertise and experience to contribute and support pharmaceutical innovation and practice. Additionally, we value someone who is genuinely passionate about their role, possesses a warm and friendly personality, and brings a mature perspective to their responsibilities.

You must also:

  • Be currently registered with the Pharmacy Council of New Zealand
  • Be able and competent to practice sole charge
  • Have good attention to detail along with good numerical and accuracy skills
  • Have an organised nature and meticulous record-keeping ability
  • Must have a full-drivers licence and rights to work in NZ
