Some of your responsibilities will include:

• Supporting and advocating for patients and whānau throughout their hospice journey
• Building and maintaining relationships with South Asian community organisations, health professionals and community leaders
• Facilitating communication between patients, whānau, healthcare providers and community services
• Providing cultural advice and guidance to multidisciplinary team members
• Promoting understanding of South Asian cultural values, traditions, languages and spiritual practices across the organisation
• Representing Tōtara Hospice at community events and building meaningful partnerships within the community
• Supporting the development of culturally responsive policies, programmes and service initiatives
• Delivering education sessions for staff on cultural values, family dynamics, language considerations and religious beliefs relevant to end-of-life care
• Assisting with initiatives that address inequities in access to healthcare services

Te Tangata | About You

You are passionate about supporting diverse communities and ensuring people receive care that respects their cultural values, beliefs and traditions.

You will bring:

• Experience supporting patients and whānau in a healthcare, community, social services or related environment
• Knowledge of strategies and approaches that reduce health and social inequities
• Strong relationship-building and networking skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Knowledge and understanding of South Asian cultural practices, traditions, values and spiritual practices.
• Strong emotional intelligence and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
• A full, clean New Zealand Driver Licence

Ideally, you will also have:

• Experience within hospice, palliative care, healthcare or a not-for-profit environment 
• Proficiency in one or more South Asian and/or Southeast Asian languages such as Hindi, Punjabi, Tamil, Urdu, Bengali, Gujarati, Nepali, Thai, Vietnamese, Tagalog, Khmer, Burmese, Malay or Indonesian
• An understanding of the diverse religions and spiritual practices represented across South Asian and Southeast Asian communities and their relevance to end-of-life care
