Job Description

Do you love hospitality and want to make a real difference? At Tōtara Hospice, we’re looking for an enthusiastic Hospitality & Catering Assistant to bring warmth and great service to our patients, visitors, and our vibrant on-site café, Aroha Eatery.

This is a role where every day feels meaningful. You’ll work in a supportive, friendly environment where your efforts help create comfort and care for our community.

Te Mahi|The Role…

In this role, you’ll spend most of your time in the kitchen preparing and serving nutritious meals for patients and their whānau, ensuring every plate reflects care and dignity. You’ll also step in to support Aroha Eatery during peak hours and assist with weekend preparations, while working alongside volunteers to maintain high standards of quality, presentation, and food safety. From catering for cultural and dietary needs to helping with seasonal events, you’ll play a vital part in creating comfort and connection through food.  We're looking for someone wonderful to work Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays; the work is fun, meaningful, and stable.

We’re seeking a real team player—someone who can fit right in, take initiative, and learn quickly. This environment suits someone who is fast, willing, and supportive, always ready to help the team when needed. Strong communication and collaboration are vital, along with reliability and a positive attitude.

You’ll also need:

  • Computer literacy
  • Understanding of health and safety and food hygiene protocols
  • Previous experience in a healthcare setting (desirable, but not essential)
  • A commitment to high standards and continuous improvement

We provide a comprehensive orientation to ensure every newcomer feels confident and supported from day one.
