Tōtara Hospice is pleased to offer an Enrolled Nurse Supported into Practice Programme (EnSIPP) opportunity for a new graduate Enrolled Nurse who is passionate about holistic, compassionate care and keen to build confidence in a supportive hospice environment.
This 12‑month fixed‑term, full‑time role is based primarily in our Inpatient Unit (IPU) and includes working a rotational roster across days, evenings, nights, weekends, and public holidays.
Te Mahi | The Role...
As an EnSIPP Enrolled Nurse at Tōtara Hospice, you will be supported to transition safely and confidently into professional practice within a structured, nurturing environment.
Working alongside experienced Registered Nurses, Health Care Assistants, and the wider multidisciplinary team, you will progressively develop your clinical skills while caring for patients in our Inpatient Unit.
You’ll be supported to:
- Deliver safe, compassionate, and person‑centred nursing care within your EN scope of practice
- Assist with holistic patient assessments, recognising physical, emotional, spiritual, and whānau needs
- Contribute to individualised care planning under RN direction
- Support patients with comfort, dignity, and quality of life at end of life
- Safely administer medications as delegated and supervised by Registered Nurses
- Assist with symptom support, including observations, comfort measures, oxygen therapy, and personal cares
- Work collaboratively with Registered Nurses, doctors, social workers, therapists, and other team members
- Support patients and whānau through clear, kind, and respectful communication
- Participate in interdisciplinary discussions and team handovers
- Accurately document care in electronic health records (MedTech)
- Recognise changes in a patient’s condition and escalate concerns appropriately
- Uphold infection prevention, medication safety, and clinical governance standards
- Engage in structured learning, reflection, and professional development throughout the programme

You are a new graduate Enrolled Nurse (or soon‑to‑be graduate) who is compassionate, reflective, and eager to learn. You value teamwork, communication, and person‑centred care and want to begin your nursing career in a supportive and meaningful environment.
To be successful in this role, you will:
- Hold (or be eligible to hold) current Enrolled Nurse registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand
- Be eligible for a current Annual Practising Certificate (APC)
- Be available to work a rotational roster (Monday–Sunday, 24/7)
- Demonstrate a caring, respectful approach to patients and whānau
- Be open to feedback, supervision, and ongoing learning
- Share Tōtara Hospice’s values of compassion, respect, and partnership
Previous hospice or palliative care experience is not required — we are committed to supporting you as you grow into your role.
