Te Mahi | The Role…..
As the CCN, you will lead and coordinate all nursing services across inpatient and community settings, ensuring safe staffing, guiding clinical decision-making, and overseeing patient flow. You’ll work closely with our Nurse Unit Manager, who brings over seven years of experience at TH. Having started from the ground up, she has embraced every opportunity to upskill and grow into her current leadership role. Her deep understanding of our systems, culture, and clinical environment makes her an invaluable mentor and leader. She leads with high standards and a strong sense of purpose—creating a space where staff feel supported, valued, and empowered to thrive. You’ll be joining a leadership team that genuinely fosters growth, encourages innovation, and champions a safe, collaborative, and people-first environment. Some of your responsibilities will include:
- Leading a high-performing nursing team to deliver safe, effective, compassionate, and dignified care using the Te Whare Tapa Whā framework.
- Partnering with Operational Leads and multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless, high-quality care.
- Managing workforce planning and skill mix to meet fluctuating service demands.
- Overseeing patient flow, including admissions and discharges, to maintain safe and efficient care delivery.
- Collaborating with medical and allied health professionals to support holistic treatment planning.
- Maintaining clinical credibility through hands-on leadership and role modelling best practice.
Ngā pukenga e hiahiatia/ What we would like to see from you...
We’re seeking a confident and compassionate clinical leader with a strong background in palliative care, oncology, or haematology—this experience is essential for success in a hospice environment.
You will bring:
- Registered Nurse qualification with a current Annual Practising Certificate (APC) in New Zealand.
- A minimum of 5 years’ clinical experience, including at least 2 years in palliative care, oncology, or haematology.
- Proven leadership experience in a clinical setting, ideally as a Charge Nurse or similar.
- Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills, with the ability to manage complex care needs.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and team-building abilities, fostering a collaborative and supportive environment.
- Experience working in a hospice or community-based palliative care setting is highly desirable.
- A sound understanding of rotational rosters, collective agreements, and clinical platforms such as MedTech.
- Familiarity with Te Tiriti o Waitangi and a commitment to culturally safe practice.
- A proactive, solutions-focused mindset, with a passion for innovation and continuous improvement.
- The ability to contribute to digital transformation in clinical practice, education, and service design.
